Indoor Air Quality
IAQ relies on some basic principles
#1 Identify! You need to test and measure to see what is actually going on. This can include thins such as temperature, humidity, CO, CO2, VOC, Particulate matter, Radon, envelope leakage and more.
#2 Source control Once the problem has been properly identified, measure and recorded you can take steps to remove, isolate or remove the source.
#3 Dilute the contaminants. This can be with filtration for particulate mater or filtered dehumidified outside air.
#4 Retest and monitor to ensure the problem has been corrected and does not return.
"prescription without diagnostics is malpractice" - John Ellis
Unfortunately there are many companies with great marketing buzzwords and "Nasa science" selling products that make chemicals to "clean the air". Unfortunately you cannot add a chemical to the air to make it clean. Many of these products create byproducts and make the air in the home worse. Many of these IAQ companies have very large budgets and deep pockets. They do not open any of there "studies" to peer review and the actively sue scientist publishing any data that brings out the truth about their products. Theses companies are spending a lot of money sponsoring influencers and even one well know educator organization to promote there product.
There is no short cut, no magic light or device to make the air clean. With some proper education real Air Quality is obtainable.

Dangers of devices that claim to make the air clean.
2024 Environmental Science & Technology study: Found that a popular in-duct bipolar ionization device produced potentially harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including acetone and toluene, while having minimal effect on airborne particle reduction https://news.mit.edu/2021/study-finds-indoor-air-cleaners-fall-short-removing-volatile-organic-compounds-1029
2024 University of Texas study: Concluded that ionizers increase air pollution, creating harmful substances such as formaldehyde, ozone, and ultra-fine particulate matter. https://natsci.source.colostate.edu/study-uncovers-safety-concerns-with-some-air-purifiers-marketed-for-covid-19/
2021 Illinois Tech, Colorado State, and Portland State study: Found that while some VOCs decreased, others—including acetone, ethanol, and toluene—increased after the ionizing device was turned on. https://www.iit.edu/news/Joint-university-research-finds-some-air-purifiers-may-actually-increase-harmful-airborne-chemicals
Boeing internal testing: An internal company study found that bipolar ionization was not effective enough for use in aircraft and that the ions react with air to produce particulate matter and gas-phase chemicals. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/health/boeing-tested-air-purifiers-like-those-widely-used-in-schools-and-decided-not-to-use-them/
